Malteser Brownies

Malteser BrowniesI wanted to try something fun today and I remembered that I had a bag of Maltesers in my closet that I forgot about.  I was first going to put them into a cookie recipe but then I thought I would try it with brownies instead because I was in a major chocolate mood.  My goal was to make a dense cakey fudge brownie with hints of crunch and sweetness from the Maltesers.  Although the brownies tasted good, the results were not the same as the picture I created in my head.  They turned out to be more cakey than I hoped and the crushed up Maltesers that I mixed into the batter ended up melting during baking and lost their crunch factor.  The brownies still had great chocolate flavor with a hint of sweetness from the melted Maltesers and the texture was good too but just not what I hoped for.

Malteser BrowniesI also decorated the tops of the brownies with full Maltesers and they managed to keep their shape and added a fun look to the tops.  I think if I were to make this recipe again, I wouldn't crush the Maltesers but instead keep them whole and mix them into the batter.  I will definately be experimenting with this recipe until I find one that matches the image in my head, wish me luck!  Here's the brownie recipe I used, I just removed the 1 Cup of nuts and replaced it with 1 Cup of crushed Maltesers (but if you try this recipe with whole Maltesers, let me know how it worked out) and then after pouring the batter into the prepared pan I decorated the tops with whole Maltesers and baked them for 30-35min.
